Chelsea appear to have missed out on Victor Lindelof after Manchester United sealed a pre-contract agreement to sign the Benfica defender this summer, according to a report in the Mirror.

Lindelof joined Benfica’s youth system in 2012 and has developed in to one of the most highly-rated young defenders in Europe since breaking in to their first team 18 months ago.

The 22-year-old is now a regular for the Portuguese outfit as well as with the Swedish national team and his potential caught the attention of some top clubs here in England.
The Mirror reported recently that United had been forced to step-up their interest in Lindelof after learning that Chelsea had also identified the defender as a key summer transfer target.
